VISA collaborator, Dr. Fortes (Director of the ACIS lab at the University of Florida), presented our joint work at the 8th International Conference on Autonomic Computing in Karlsruhe, Germany.

VISA collaborator, Dr. Fortes (Director of the ACIS lab at the University of Florida), presented our joint work at the 6th International Workshop on Feedback Control Implementation and Design in Computing Systems and Networks (FeBID) in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Dr. Zhao gave a presentation for the paper co-authored by Yonggang Liu, Dr. Renato Figueiredo, Dulcardo Clavijo, and Yiqi Xu at the 7th IEEE International Workshop on Storage Network Architecture and Parallel I/O in Denver, Colorado.

The VISA lab has summer research internships for undergraduate students who are interested in computer systems. Our current projects include research on high-performance computing and cloud computing systems.


The benefits for the students include:

- Training in systems programming and experimentation (C, Linux, etc.)
- Training in research skills (technical reading, writing, and presentations)
- Opportunity to work with advanced computer systems (clusters, clouds)
- Paid on a hourly basis ($10 or higher depending on qualifications)


The requirements for the applicants include:

- Ability to work at least 12 weeks and 20 hours per week in summer 2011
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
- A grade of B or higher in Data Structures and Programming courses
- US citizen or permanent resident

The collaborative research project on Disaster Information Management by Drs. Chen, Li, Wei, Yang, and Zhao have received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

We are also hiring PhD students to join this project.

Undergraduate students, Joseph Hayon, Lionel Nimmo, Marcos Di Pietro, and Stephen Bromfield, mentored by Dr. Zhao gave the presentation on vMoodle, a virtual machine based online learning system.

Dr. Zhao gave a presentation of the paper "Cooperative Virtual Machine Scheduling on Multi-core Multi-threading Systems — A Feasibility Study" on the Workshop on Micro Architectural Support for Virtualization, Data Center Computing, and Clouds (co-held with MICRO 2010), Atlanta, December 5, 2010.

VISA student Yiqi Xu gave a presentation of his paper "Virtualization-based Storage Management for High-end Computing Systems" on the 5th Petascale Data Storage Workshop (co-held with Supercomputing 2010), New Orleans, November 15, 2010.
